An Evidenced Based Approach

Improving Brain Function for Optimal Mental and Physical Health with QEEG Neurofeedback

What is Neurofeedback Therapy

The QEEG Neurofeedback (NF) process assesses and measures abnormal areas of the brain that may be causing unwanted symptoms that are affecting a patient’s mental health.
This technique has been used since the 1950’s to help improve PTSD, depression, insomnia and other neurodegenerative disorders. NF is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free treatment system that retrains the brain to function in a healthy and balanced manner.

Evidence-based scientific research supports NF as an effective tool to help improve various bodily functions that are related to the central nervous system and the brain.

How Does Neurofeedback Work

MyndFull Care Neurofeedback provides real-time assessment of brain health, with a specific focus on how cortical activity helps to regulate the central nervous system.

Patients have the FDA cleared Dry Sensor Interface (DSI) headset integrating revolutionary dry electrode technology placed on their head. This acquires clean EEG signals without the need for skin preparation to monitor and measure brain activity in all areas of the brain.

Our state-of-the-art software then detects, amplifies, and records specific brain activities. The monitored biometrics are analyzed in real time and drives a customized feedback program designed to help each patient with their individual brain health goals.

After a number of feedback sessions, patients learn to apply their new cognitive flexibility skills to their daily lives, experiencing reduced stress and increases in focus and processing speed.

Patients frequently report improved sleep, more patience and resiliency with their family and colleagues, resulting in better energy for both work and play.

Neurofeedback improves quality of life

  1. Better sleep, Better focus
  2. Increased motivation & ability to accomplish tasks
  3. Improved academic, athletic, creative, and work performance
  4. Enhancement of social interactions
  5. Increased self-esteem and energy
  6. Decrease in shakes, tremors, and seizures
  7. Reduced stress and anxiety
  8. Self-control when it comes to chemical dependency
  9. Clearer mind and improved memory
  10. Increased motor skills
  11. Ability to control weight gain
  12. Overall calmness in nature
  13. Healthier professional and personal interactions

NEUROFEEDBACK TREATMENT SESSIONS

During the Treatment session, the patient sits comfortably in a chair while the physician places the headset (electrode sensors) and earphones on the patient. Our DSI headset integrates revolutionary dry electrode technology without the need for skin preparation allowing for easy, non-invasive, and painless placement of the electrodes.

These sensors only read the electrical signals produced by the brain and transmit them to the artificial intelligence software in the computer, they don’t transmit any signal to the brain. Depending on the treatment protocol developed by the brain mapping and physicians, the patients are asked to pick something they want to watch on the computer screen or monitor. As the patient is engaged in the video, the computer monitors if the brain is accepting the changes in the protocol. If not, the computer will provide feedback for the brain to help train the abnormal brain wave to operate normally. Like any new skill, NF works overtime, through reinforcement and repetition.

MYNDFULL CARE APPROACH TO MENTAL HEALTH

Anxiety

Patients with anxiety may be overwhelmed, exhausted, and stressed. They cannot concentrate because of their intense inner focus. Anxious people may appear calm, but their brains never seem to calm down.  The constant internal chatter can get so bad that it interrupts sleep and robs quality of life. People suffering from anxiety don't live in the present, they constantly worry about the future or live in the past. Neurofeedback is the fastest ways to teach people how to learn to help themselves, and it's easy to learn. These technologies have been used for many years with solid, proven results. It's true, neurofeedback helps to reduce anxiety and stay calmer.

Epilepsy/seizures

Neurofeedback was used in the 1970's to improve seizure disorders. A seizure disorder is a disease in which the brain lost its stability. People with seizures can regulate and stabilize their brains through neurofeedback training. Research studies show how effective neurofeedback training can be in the reduction of seizures.

Insomnia/Sleep Disorders

There are millions of people around the world suffering from insomnia, which is not only affecting their daily life, but also creating other medical issues. NF can be a powerful tool for helping people fall asleep and stay asleep. Interestingly, patients will comment on how their sleep has improved within the first 10 sessions regardless of their diagnosis.

PTSD

PTSD is a very serious disorder of anxiety. NF was developed by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to help military veterans with severe PTSD after they were discharged. NF trains the brain to produce a calm state as well as help the patient self-regulate the stress response to improve the anxiety.

Stroke

Stroke and TBI involved injuries to the brain. With neurofeedback, the brain is exercised. Brain training is completely individualized and the specific areas of the brain affected by the stroke or TBI are targeted during neurofeedback therapy. Often in the case of stroke and TBI, a neurofeedback practitioner will utilize a qEEG brain map to determine which areas should be targeted. A variety of symptoms can be improved through neurofeedback training, such as speech, movement, regulating moods, controlling behavior, and reducing headaches. Neurofeedback training session works by rewiring the Brodmann areas that are not affected by the damaged brain tissue.

Depression

NF therapy is revolutionary in how it can relate a patient's current brain-wave activity and relay that information to our doctors in real-time. Our doctors can then begin non-invasive treatment to help correct abnormal brain-wave activity by selectively increasing your alpha waves to the right hemisphere of your brain while reducing alpha waves on your left hemisphere. After sessions using neurofeedback therapy, abnormal brain activity starts stabilizing, which in turn improves function, mood, and outcomes are optimized.

Dementia

Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that's identified by loss of memory and cognitive functions. Theta brainwaves have been linked to memory. As we age, those brainwaves start to lose efficiency. Our neurofeedback sessions have been specifically designed to optimize Theta brainwaves thus improving memory.

Falls

Falls are common in the elderly and are caused by multiple factors. Overuse of psychiatric medications, memory problems, poor concentration, and poor balance are typical causes of a fall. Studies have shown that Neurofeedback can improve cognition, improve concentration, reduce the use of psychiatric medications, and improve balance. Thus, reducing the incidence of falls.
